In my basic studies of painting, I researched and based on the motif of the figure, that is, the realistically treated portrait, both in proportions and in the depiction of painted surfaces. Continuing with this practice, with the change in the size of the canvas, over time I began to use a different range of colors. I started painting portraits of people who are closer to my environment. This was followed by the more frequent use of pastel colors (Oswald’s circle in the negative), so the palette becomes more subtle, and the colors more soothing and soothing. Shortly afterwards, I also introduced neon or fluorescent colors, which, in contrast to the pastel palette, contributed to a strange and pleasant effect in the painting.
The mentioned changes (models and color palettes) encouraged me to do more research, as well as to approach the process of expression within the image more freely. Initial experimentation was limited to smaller formats and drawings, but over time I tried to transfer that kind of freedom and expression to a larger canvas, combining the aforementioned techniques in painting a portrait set in a macro plan. In these works, based on the research within the portrait, the principle of painting from azure barely visible treated surfaces all the way to richly painted pastoral surfaces becomes dominant. The idea of portraiture in recent works grows into a reduced form of a circle, as a symbolic and geometric body. What predominates at the moment in my works is the research in the field of circles and the introduced painterly relations of stain and structure. The structure of the image is formed in several layers, both due to the achievement of a sense of depth, and due to the additional emphasis on the opposite in the form of contrast (subtle – vibrating, calm – playful, smooth – structural …). I started the series of planets at the end of my basic studies at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. The topic that I will deal with in my master’s studies began with my interest in inner development and man’s effort to establish harmony and find inner peace, contact with spirituality and research of geometry that is closely related to it. My work would take place in the direction of reducing form to a basic geometric shape (circle) or the phenomenology of a circle.
The work I have had so far has led me to examine as many stains and materials as possible that are different in structure and come into contact together creating a new visual story (of synthetic or natural origin). With stains, I also discovered how the image is reflected and the space in which the image is located, absorbed and gained its layered dimension and structure. The reflection itself is obtained from the liquid that accumulates in the form of a “pond” that makes its way along the canvas, leaving traces. It will develop in the stated direction with the addition of newer materials and different reactions. The shape of the circle is performed on the canvas as well as the process itself when the painting is created (movement around the canvas).
